WORKSHOPS for the ELDERLY
We offer bespoke south Asian classical (SAC) music workshops for elderly people living with dementia and Alzheimer's in care homes across London.
For the past few years, we have been regularly working with care homes and eldery day centres across Hounslow, Camden, Croydon, Luton, Slough, Twickenham and Barnet. Our specialist musicians lead structured, interactive sessions that draw on the remarkable therapeutic qualities of SAC music, particularly its monophonic melodic structures and the rich emotional architecture of the raga form, to bring moments of enrichment and connection to people who need it most.

One of the most beautiful aspects of Indian classical music is its ability to transcend barriers, age being no exception.
Music can be especially beneficial to the elderly. Research has shown that music can have profound therapeutic effects on individuals, reducing anxiety and improving mood. Music therapy has been shown to help patients with Alzheimer's and dementia - aiding improvement in their mood, behaviour, and well-being. It can also help them connect to the past, by evoking certain memories.

zerOclassikal had the privilege of visiting an elderly care home in Croydon to share the timeless gift of classical music with the residents, in collaboration with Beeja.
The sun was shining as our Artistic Director Jonathan Mayer and tabla artist Debasish Mukherjee spoke to the lovely residents, introduced their instruments, and shared the joy of raga Madhuvanti and raga Yaman.
The workshop was well received among the residents, who said:
