We've commissioned 2 emerging artists to each create a new piece of work - with tailored mentorship, touring opportunities, a studio recording and digital release facilitated by zerOclassikal.
Pavithra Prathab
Vainika & Pianist
Our second artist is Pavithra Prathab, a Vainika and pianist who has been part of Tarang with Milapfest for many years, attending their summer retreats and performing ensemble works across the UK composed for Tarang by world renowned artists and is currently an artist in residence for the Asian arts agency programme emerge 2 programme. Pavithra’s work explores the intersection of the veena and piano, bringing these two traditions into dialogue.
Tommy Khosla
Contemporary Sitarist & Surbaharist
Whilst the heart of his practice is South Asian Classical Music, he has always been interested in new ways of working that are more relevant to his own artistry and the modern audience. Tommy is influenced by modal and chordal jazz since studying this from a young age, and has more recently been inspired by elements of Japanese folk, Afghan classical and Carnatic music. He has played at Glastonbury, Royal Albert Hall, Royal Symphony Hall Birmingham, SXSW Austin & London (with his collective, JAWARI), among others.
